High school baseball: Minden shuts out North Caddo in opener; Doyline rallies past Lakeside

The Minden Crimson Tide and Doyline Panthers opened their 2025 seasons with victories Monday night.

Minden defeated North Caddo 3-0 at North Caddo and Doyline edged Lakeside 6-5 at Lakeside.

Elsewhere, Glenbrook fell to defending District 1-5A champion Captain Shreve 11-1 in five innings in Shreveport.

At North Caddo, Minden’s Jaxon Smith pitched a three-hitter. He struck out nine and walked only two.

Bray Winston, Bryson Ranger and Landyn Huddleston all had two hits. Huddleston had a double.

The Tide scored one in the third. Ranger’s one-out single scored Winston, who led off with a single.

Minden scored its final two in the fifth. Huddleston’s two-out single scored Jacob Jefferson, who was hit by a pitch. Winston scored on a error after stealing third.

Minden is scheduled to start a three-game series against D’Arbonne Woods Thursday at 6 p.m. in Farmerville.

At Lakeside, Doyline scored three runs in the top of the seventh to rally for the victory.

The Panthers took advantage of two hit-by-pitches, a walk and an error. Noah Spears’ groundout with no outs scored the final two runs.

Spears, a Northwestern State signee, pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts.

Spears also went 2-for-3 with three RBI. He hit a solo home run in the top of the first.

Ayden Moreno Taule, Jonas Florence and Cooper Hayes all had RBIs.

Per Lakeside’s GameChanger site, the Warriors’ Peyton Gray and Drake Chreene both went 2-for-3.  Jon Jon Dick had a hit and drew three walks.

Doyline is scheduled to host Ringgold Friday. Lakeside is scheduled to visit Benton Thursday as part of the Many tournament.

At Captain Shreve, the Apaches got only three hits off four Shreve pitchers.

Ryan Reagan had a double. Starting pitcher Seth Mangrum had an RBI. Reagan allowed just two hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief with eight strikeouts.

Glenbrook is scheduled to host Benton, a non-select Division I semifinalist, Tuesday.
