High school boys basketball: Minden, Doyline seek quarterfinal berths

by Russell Hedges

After lengthy breaks, the Minden Crimson Tide and Doyline Panthers finally get back on the court Tuesday night in the second round of the playoffs.

Minden (21-3), the No. 2 seed, hosts No. 15 Beau Chene (16-17) in a non-select Division II game.

Doyline (22-8), the No. 12 seed, visits No. 5 Hicks (30-8) in a Class B game at 6.

The Tide and Panthers both received first-round byes.

District 2-4A runner-up Minden hasn’t played in almost two weeks. The Tide defeated Benton 60-46 in its regular-season finale Feb. 19.

Beau Chene defeated No. 18 West Feliciana 65-62 in the first round last Friday.

The Gators of Arnaudville finished tied for third in five-team District 5-4A.

Beau Chene reached the second round last year as the No. 7 seed, falling to No. 10 Lakeshore 76-70.

Minden, which made the playoffs last season for the first time since 2016, is in the second round for the second year in a row. The Tide was seeded No. 14 last year and defeated No. 19 Leesville 65-54 in the first round for their first playoff win since 2011.

Minden then fell to No. 3 Carroll 64-48 in Monroe.

Doyline and Hicks are facing off in the second round for the second year in a row. The Pirates, seeded No. 12, upset No. 4 Doyline 53-49 in non-select Division V last year at Doyline.

This season Classes B and C are no longer divided between non-select and select schools.

There were 12 first-round byes in the 20-team Class B bracket. Like Doyline, Hicks received one.

Doyline hasn’t played since a 100-87 loss to Georgetown on Feb. 21. District 4-B runner-up Hicks hasn’t played since a 72-36 victory over Singer on Feb. 19.
