Central Elementary School wrapped up Read Across America Week with a Mardi Gras parade and a pep rally on March 7, where students received copies of the book Louisiana ‘Seasons’ by Louisiana author Rebecca Ventre. Each school selected its own book to read as part of the literacy celebration.

The excitement on Friday began as CES held its Mardi Gras parade, originally scheduled for Fat Tuesday but postponed due to stormy weather. Sponsored by the kindergarten classes, the parade featured the top boy and girl St. Jude fundraisers from each class as the class king and queen.

Students and parents lined the winding carline to cheer on the parade and catch Mardi Gras beads, making it one of the most elaborate school Mardi Gras parades of the week.
