Additional charge filed in Webster Parish puppy mill case

by Amber McDown

Authorities have filed an additional charge against a Doyline woman previously arrested in connection with an unlicensed puppy mill operation. Kimberly B. Crowley, already facing 72 counts of animal cruelty, has now been charged with theft after a complainant reported paying her for the care of a horse that was later found dead on the property.

Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker said the complainant came forward after hearing about the case, stating that she had paid more than $2,000 to Crowley for the horse’s care. Crowley had reportedly assured the owner that the horse was in good health. Deputies have since collected the horse’s remains as evidence.

Kimberly Crowley and her husband, Alan D. Crowley, 68, were arrested last week after deputies discovered more than 20 dogs dumped on Dement Road in Doyline. This investigation led to the Crowley home where 60 dogs were found living in squalid conditions inside their residence and an on-site kennel. The animals were reportedly confined in cages without food or water, surrounded by urine and feces.

Further investigation uncovered additional animals on the property, including horses, cows, pigs, ducks, chickens, geese, mules, turtles, and rats. Deputies also found the bodies of multiple deceased animals, including dogs, a horse, and goats.

Several puppies rescued from the home were in critical condition and required immediate veterinary care. Their current health status remains unknown.

Sheriff Parker emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Volunteers from the animal rescue organization LaMa, along with Webster Parish deputies and animal control officers, have been working to remove and document the animals. All rescued animals are undergoing veterinary evaluations and will be prepared for potential adoption.
