High school baseball: Glenbrook tops Haynesville; Lakeside gets non-district win

The Glenbrook Apaches and Lakeside Warriors won Tuesday.

Glenbrook defeated Haynesville 5-1 in a District 1-1A game at Glenbrook. Lakeside downed Grant 11-6 in a non-district game at Grant.

Elsewhere, Minden fell to Northwood 11-6 in a District 1-4A opener at Northwood. Doyline dropped a 4-3 decision to Simsboro in a District 1-B opener at Doyline.

At Glenbrook, seven Apaches combined for eight hits. Easton Sanders went 2-for-3. Preston Frye and Jackson Waller had doubles.

Starter Brayden Watkins went four innings. He allowed two hits, struck out nine and walked only one. Sam Ricord gave up two hits and struck out three in the final three innings.

Glenbrook (9-7, 2-0) visits Byrd Friday at 6. The Apaches are scheduled to play a three-game series against Cedar Creek for the district championship starting April 4.

At Grant, six Warriors combined for nine hits. Jake Glass went 2-for-4 with a triple two RBI. Gage Williams went 2-for-4. 

Brock Case broke a 5-5 tie with a bases-loaded triple with two outs in the top of the fourth. Drake Chreene had a double and drew two walks. Peyton Gray and Noah Redding both drew two walks and had singles.

Williams pitched five innings in relief. He gave up five hits, struck out four and walked none.

Lakeside (9-11) is scheduled to Franklin Parish Friday at 5.

At Northwood, Minden led 4-1 through three innings but the Falcons put four on the board in the fourth and fifth.

Bryson Ranger smacked two home runs and had three RBI. Landyn Huddleston also hit a home run. Bray Winston had a double.

The Tide hurt themselves with five errors. Northwood’s Hagen Ashby went 3-for-4.

Minden (12-7) and Northwood (15-2) are scheduled to complete the two-game series Thursday at Minden at 6. The Falcons have won 12 in a row.

At Doyline, the Panthers scored three in the bottom of the third but the Tigers scored two in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Noah Spears went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. He pitched a complete game with 16 strikeouts and three walks. Only one of Simsboro’s runs was earned.

Simsboro’s Chris Harrell also pitched a complete game. He allowed six hits, struck out 10 and walked two. 

Doyline (5-6) visits North Webster Thursday at 6. Simsboro improved to 10-7.
