The Glenbrook Apaches are one win away from winning another District 1-1A championship.
The Apaches defeated Cedar Creek 5-2 in the first of their three-game championship series Monday at Glenbrook.
Glenbrook hasn’t lost a district game since joining the LHSAA in 2021-22. Glenbrook (13-8) and Cedar Creek (12-14) are scheduled to play a 4 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday in Ruston.
Easton Sanders pitched a two-hitter. He struck out 11 and walked three. He also had all three of the Apaches’ hits, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Glenbrook took advantage of multiple errors.
The Apaches scored a run in the bottom of the first. Sanders led off with a double. Seth Mangrum’s bunt resulted in an error and Carson Powell, running for Sanders, scored.
Glenbrook extended the lead to 3-0 in the third. Leadoff batter Sanders and Mangrum reached base on errors. Both scored on another error on a bunt by Dawson Day.
The Cougars cut the lead to one with two runs in the fourth. The Apaches added single runs in the fifth and sixth.
Sanders led off the fifth with a single. Powell, again running for Sanders, advanced to second on an error and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Mangrum. Jackson Waller drew a walk. He stole second and Powell scored to make it 4-2.
In the sixth, Eli Still drew a walk with two outs and stole second. Sanders’ double to center brought him home.
Sanders struck out the side in the top of the seventh.
Cedar Creek ace left-hander Kade Luker allowed two hits in 5 2:3 innings. He struck out 13 and walked three.
Elsewhere, North Webster defeated Logansport 4-3 in Springhill and Doyline fell to Weston at Doyline.
At North Webster, Aiden Woodall pitched a complete game. Preston Ingle went 2-for-3 (per Logansport’s stats). Colby Dinkins and Nathan Bernard both doubled.
North Webster (10-9) visits Bastrop Wednesday.
At Doyline, Noah Spears had the Panthers’ only two hits off Weston’s Ty Henderson, who struck out 10 and walked two.
Doyline (8-12) hosts Southwood Wednesday at 5. Weston (16-8, 4-0) won the District 1-B championship.
