High school baseball: Doyline, North Webster win; Minden loses heartbreaker

The Doyline Panthers and North Webster Knights were victorious Wednesday.

Doyline defeated Southwood 14-0 in five innings at Doyline. North Webster routed Bastrop 21-3 in a District 1-3A game in Bastrop.

Elsewhere, Minden fell to Ouachita Parish 3-2 in eight innings in Monroe.

At Doyline, Noah Spears and Zach Normand combined on a no-hitter. Spears pitched a perfect four innings with nine strikeouts. Normand struck out two in the fifth.

The Panthers took advantage of 15 walks. Spears and Ayden Moreno-Taule had one hit and two RBI each. Jonas Florence had three RBI and James Dodge two.

Doyline (9-12) visits Castor Friday at 4. At No. 17 in the Class B power rankingsĀ per GeauxPreps.com with two games left, the Panthers are a virtual lock for a playoff berth. The top 20 teams in the final rankings make the playoffs.

At Bastrop, North Webster improved to 11-10 with the victory. With two games left, the Knights are No. 24 in the non-select Division III power rankings. The top 24 teams in the final rankings make the playoffs.

At Ouachita Parish, Minden led 2-0 through 5 1/2 innings. But the Lions scored one in the bottom of the sixth then tied it with one with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. They won it with one in the eighth.

Landon Brewer went 2-for-3. Landyn Huddleston went 2-for-4.

Minden (16-13) hosts Southwood Thursday at 6. The Tide are No. 15 in the non-select Division II power rankings with three games left. The Nos. 9-16 teams in the final rankings host first-round playoff series.
