A 59-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly returning to a Minden bank from which he had been asked to leave and exhibiting signs of intoxication.
According to Minden Police, Artie Brown III was taken into custody at approximately 3:44 PM on April 15 and charged with public drunkenness and remaining after being forbidden.
Officers initially responded to Capital One Bank around noon following a report of a man in a red shirt who had entered the business and was sleeping on the furniture. Upon arrival, police made contact with Brown, who appeared to have just awakened and had glassy eyes. When asked if he was all right and why he was at the bank, Brown claimed to have an appointment with the manager but could not provide a name or time for the meeting.
A bank employee requested Brown be removed from the property, and he complied at the time. However, police were called again about 30 minutes later after Brown reportedly returned and was seen hiding in the ATM room and eating chips.
Upon the second contact, officers noted that Brown had difficulty balancing, was slurring his speech, and was unable to follow instructions during a field sobriety test. Officers also observed nystagmus in both eyes.
Before being placed in a patrol unit, Brown was searched, and small plastic bags were found in his possession. Brown told officers the substance that had been in the bags was not marijuana, but “the stuff that gave him superpowers.”
Brown was transported to the Minden Police Department for booking and advised of his rights.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
