The No. 5 seed Glenbrook Apaches fell to No. 12 Ouachita Christian 7-2 in the second round of the select Division IV playoffs Tuesday at Glenbrook.
Glenbrook closed its season 15-10. Ouachita Christian (16-15) avenged a 4-2 loss to Glenbrook in the quarterfinals last year.
The game also brought to an end the outstanding high school career of Glenbrook multi-sport athlete Easton Sanders, a Louisiana Tech signee.
Sanders led the Apaches to a state runner-up finish last season and a semifinal appearance in 2023. As a quarterback, he helped the Apaches make multiple playoff appearances.
Sanders pitched 6 2/3 innings Tuesday. He allowed five hits, struck out two and walked four.
At the plate, he went 2-for-4 with a double.
Dawson Day also went 2-for-4 with a double.
Ouachita Christian’s Karson Trichel pitched a complete game. He allowed eight hits, struck out nine and walked two.
The Eagles opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the second on two walks, a single and a sacrifice bunt.
OCS went up 4-0 in the fifth, scoring two thanks to a walk, error and single.
The Apaches had their chances in the first four innings. They stranded two in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth.
Glenbrook finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth.
Hudson Glasscock reached on an error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Darron Hollingsworth. Seth Mangrum’s two-out single scored Glasscock.
But the Eagles answered in the top of the sixth with a run on a two-out single by Luke Vidrine.
It looked like the Apaches might pull off a comeback in the bottom of the inning.
Ryan Reagan doubled with one out. Sam Ricord and Preston Frye had back-to-back singles, getting the Apaches within three.
A groundout put runners at second and third with two outs. But Trichel ended the threat with a strikeout.
The Eagles then added two more runs in the top of the seventh. William Raymond got the big hit, a two-out, two-RBI single.
Sanders led off the bottom of the seventh with a double in his final at-bat. But the next three Apaches went down in order.
Sanders and teammate Jackson Waller, also a standout multi-sport athlete, will have one more chance to represent Glenbrook. They have been selected to the West team for the Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association/Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star Games to be held May 23-24 in Pineville.
