High school track and field: Glenbrook’s Clemons, Heflin qualify for state meet

Glenbrook’s Trent Clemons and Ella Heflin qualifed for the Class 1A state meet with top-three finishes in the Region I-1A meet Tuesday at Lakeside.

Clemons finished second in the boys 3,200 in 11 minutes, 36.11 seconds. Cedar Creek’s Luke Alexander won in 10:59.35.

Ella Heflin finished third in the girls discus with a throw of 87 feet-10.5 inches. Plain Dealing’s Brianna Newton won with a 108-4.

Anna Morales finished fourth in the girls javelin and will be an alternate for the state meet. Her distance was 90-6.5. Third-place finisher Makenzie Jones of Cedar Creek threw a 96-2.25.

Franklin Bridwell finished fifth in the boys shot put. How throw of 39-3.25 was just 4.25 inches shorter than that of third-place finisher Samplice Simien of St. Frederick.

Clemons also finished fifth in the 1,600, less than five seconds behind third-place finisher Caiden Finley of LaSalle. 

Mattison Fowler was fifth in the girls 800 in 2:46.39. Third-place finisher Bradie Eppinette of Cedar Creek ran a 2:28.34.

St. Frederick won the girls division and Haynesville won the boys.

The Class 1-1A meet is May 8 at LSU.
