A burglary investigation led Webster Parish deputies to a Shreveport man who allegedly told investigators he entered a home looking for someone who was not there — and then reported that his vehicle contained a firearm and “mushrooms.”
Jesse D. Johnson, 40, of Shreveport, was arrested Friday and booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center following the investigation.
According to the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a Taylor Road residence shortly before 11:30 AM in response to a report of an active burglary. Investigators learned the suspect had already left the residence.
Deputies later located Johnson at the TA Travel Center on Louisiana Highway 532, according to Sheriff Jason Parker.
Johnson reportedly told deputies he had entered the residence looking for an individual. Once inside, he began going through the home but realized the person he was looking for was not there, according to the sheriff’s office.
During the investigation, Johnson reportedly told deputies that a firearm and mushrooms were inside his vehicle. A subsequent search allegedly uncovered a loaded handgun and two clear bags containing hallucinogenic mushrooms, classified as a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance under Louisiana law.
A background check reportedly showed Johnson had previous felony convictions, making him prohibited from possessing a firearm.
During follow-up interviews, the residents told investigators they did not know Johnson and had never given him permission to enter their home.
Johnson was booked on charges of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
