The Bossier Phillies’ run in the American Legion World Series ended Monday night with a 12-7 loss to League City, Texas, in the semifinals in Shelby, N.C.
Bossier ended an outstanding summer 26-5. The Phillies won the Louisiana state championship and Mid-South Regional for the second straight year and reached the World Series semifinals after coming up just short a year ago.
The 19U team, comprised mainly of players from Northwest Louisiana with a couple from East Texas, including former Minden star Brody Bower and former Glenbrook standout Easton Sanders.
Bower pitched Bossier to a 4-3 victory over Chesapeake, Va., which defeated Portland, Ore., 7-3 in the other semifinal, on Sunday.
Sanders had a single against League City.
Bossier scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. But League City regained the lead with two in the bottom of the inning.
League City put four on the board in the fourth to go up 7-2.
The Phillies answered with four in the fifth to cut the deficit to one. But the Texas club scored two in the bottom of the inning for a 9-6 lead.
Bossier got within two with a run in the top of the sixth. But League City tallied three more in the bottom of the frame.
The Phillies had 11 hits.
Hudson Brignac, a former Benton star who is now a sophomore at Northwestern State, went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBI.
Benton senior Case Jorden went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.
Abel Thetford (Parkway, Pearl River Community College), Brock Laird (Natchitoches Central, Southeastern) and Kade Bryant (Benton, Northwestern State) had one hit and one RBI apiece.
Jackson Jones( Benton, Louisiana Tech) had one hit. Griffin Sibley (Benton, Southeastern Iowa Community College) drew two walks.
Bryant pitched five innings and Thetford one.
Parker Collier, a Texas State commit, led League City with three hits, including a home run, and three RBI.
