Annual Sarepta Christmas Festival

by Minden Press-Herald

“Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” was a festive affair. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time. There were food and arts and craft vendors, three bouncy houses, one dry slide, regular park activities, instructors to help children create special “take home” projects, live entertainment inside the big tent and inside the Sarepta Community Center, an elabrate Silent Auction, a regional Chili Cook-Off and a huge car show.P8260067

There was standing room only when Santa appeared, enthusiastically waving, from a fire truck. The lines were long as each child anxiously awaited for their own individual time with Jolly Old St. Nic, who gave each child a present. Steve “Babs” Slack held the attention of the young and “not so young” as she authenically read the Cajun version of “Twas the Night before Christmas.”

Earlier in the week, the hidden treasure was found by the team of Jodi Page and Debbie Woods. They were wearing their Sarepta Christmas Festival T-shirts, so that upped their winnings by $50. The total prize was $350.

The sponsors of this event were: Barksdale Federal Credit Union, Carter Federal Credit Union, Citizens Bank and Trust Company, Coca Cola Bottling Company of Minden, Rodney and Tracy Ketchum and Webster Parish Convention and Visitors Commission. Volunteer groups were the Louisiana Youth and Teen Challenge Program and the North Webster Junior High School 4-H Club.
