Back to School Bash draws crowd for supplies and fun

by Amber McDown

The 16th Annual Back to School Bash was a resounding success on August 4, attracting large crowds at Webster Jr. High School in Minden and the CAC Building in Springhill. Parents and students gathered to collect school supplies and register for the upcoming school year. The Superintendent Johnny Rowland was on hand to observe the event in MInden, noting the positive impact on students, families, and Webster Parish team members.

Students had the opportunity to register, meet their administrators, and win door prizes, including a bicycle, journals, lava lamps, sensory toys, books, and gift cards. The event also offered treats such as popcorn, cotton candy, and hot dogs provided by the Lakeside High School Ag Department, along with snow cones.

A special store was set up where students could shop for uniforms and everyday clothing. Additionally, vendors showcased information about their businesses and organizations. The event also featured free haircuts provided by Woo’s Barber and Style Shop and Boss Man Barber College.

“The bash was a huge success,” said Community Liaison Ursula Hullaby. “Well over 1,000 bags were prepared for our students and none were left. Between Woo’s Barber Shop and Boss Man Barber College (which consisted of 14 barbers), at least 70 free haircuts were provided.”

The Back to School Bash serves as a festive kickoff for the school year, with the first day of classes scheduled for Friday, August 9.
