Back to School Bash to provide school supplies, haircuts

by Minden Press-Herald

Kids from across Webster Parish will get a chance to get everything they need for school Monday.
From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the Minden Civic Center, the annual Back to School Bash will be a day of fun, prizes, school supplies and helpful information for students and parents. Free t-shirts will be given out to the first 300 students to attend, and each child who attends the event will receive a ticket for raffle prizes; prizes include bicycles, tablets and gift cards.
Bounce houses will be available for students to play, and each student will receive the opportunity for a free haircut.

A variety of vendors will be on hand to help students and parents prepare to head back to school.
Kagnee Veitch, United Way’s operations coordinator, says the cost of school supplies and uniforms can be overwhelming.

“This year, we expect an increase in the number of those needing help,” she said. “Our goal is to ensure that every student has what they need in order to focus on their academic success as they begin the new school year.”

The Back to School Bash is sponsored by the Webster Parish School Board, in conjunction with Minden Medical Center and United Way of Northwest Louisiana. Many individuals and businesses have either donated prizes, supplies or money to the bash.

Last year, roughly 1,500 Webster Parish students received school supplies.
