Barbara Jeanette Wilson Clayton, 78, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014. She was born August 11, 1936.
Barbara was a life-long member of Church of Christ and dedicated believer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her faith and out-going personality led her to minister to others in any way she could. One path of service was through nursing; starting as a Licensed Practical Nurse, she later became a Registered Nurse and eventually earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of West Florida. She was proud to practice nursing over 30 years. Her penchant for care-giving extended to everyone she met and she was heard to say on several occasions that “it is an honor.”
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Ralph Clayton; infant son, David Ralph; and her parents, Albert and Wilma Wilson.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Gaw (Jerry) and grandson, David Gaw of Tennessee; sister, Sandra Milburn and nephews, Johnny Milburn and Danny Milburn (Sherry, Emma, Jon) of Texas.
Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014, with a memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32504 with Jerry Gaw officiating. Inurnment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
Hebrews 12:1 tells us that the faithful who have gone before us make up “a great cloud of witnesses” who encourage believers to remain devoted to the Lord. Barbara is now blessed to be in the presence of the Lord–she is healed, she is at peace– and she is serving those she loves by being a witness to the fact of His glory and grace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Alzheimer’s Association or any worthy charity of your choice.
