Billie Jean Crawford was born January 3, 1938 in Webster Parish, Louisiana to Albert and Oneta Cobb Crawford. He was one of ten children born to this parentage.
He attended school in the Webster Parish School System. He joined the United States Air Force and faithfully served our country for twenty years which included the Vietnam Era. Upon retiring from active duty, Billie continued service to our veterans and families as a manager of the Barksdale Commissary. He retired after twenty-one years.
He united in holy matrimony to Helen Elkins Crawford. They were blessed with two daughters, Sherry and Jackie.
Billie enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed his daily routine of eating breakfast at Minden Medical Center with “The Crew” and sitting around with the men at Val Clark’s discussing current events.
Billie Crawford departed this earthly life for heavenly reward on December 13, 2017 at the Overton Brook Veterans Hospital. He will truly be missed and forever loved. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, and brothers: Jimmy Lee Crawford, Roland Crawford and John L. Crawford;
Billie leaves to cherish his precious memories, his daughters: Sherry Rice (Kenneth) and Jackie Elkins; his sister, JoAnn Richardson (Walter); his brothers: Willie Crawford (Joyce), Rowland Crawford, and Diana Crawford (Ann); five grandchildren: Anthony Elkins (Carita), Tawana Tutson, Shannon Rice, Jasmine Rice, and Kierra McGee; two great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services for Billie Crawford will be held Saturday, December 23, 12:00 Noon at the Good Samaritan Baptist Church with Pastor Terrence McCray officiating. Interment will follow at the Sheppard Street Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 22 in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Services are entrusted to Kennon’s Mortuary. Email condolences may be sent to [email protected].
