Earlier this season in the Minden Invitational Tournament, Minden defeated Calvary in a high-intensity ball game, but it was the Cavaliers on top Friday night at Griffith Stadium, as they topped the Crimson Tide 12-6.
The game was a slugfest between the two sides, with Calvary out-hitting Minden 12 to 10 in the matchup of non-district foes.
Calvary jumped ahead early with three runs in the top of the first inning. Both teams put up two runs in the third inning, but the Cavs took a commanding lead with a five-run fourth inning.
Trailing 12-2 in the fifth, Minden scored one run to avoid being run ruled and added three more runs in the sixth to pull closer at 12-6. Calvary went down in order in the seventh leaving the door slightly ajar for a comeback, but Calvary’s Fox Locke came in to fire a scoreless seventh frame to clinch the win.
Justin McCready took the loss for Minden, going three innings, allowing seven earned runs and eight hits while striking out four.
Gunner Stephens went 2-5 with two singles and three RBIs, followed by Trace Francis who went 3-4 with a triple and two singles. Matt Eskew went 2-4 with two singles. McCready and Brian McLaughlin added RBI singles for the Minden offense and Aubrey Dennis singled.
