City council to hear zoning appeal

by Minden Press-Herald

The future of a Sullivan Street home is in the hands of the Minden City Council.

Monday evening, the city council will consider whether to let the Minden Planning Commission decision to deny a zoning variance for the home located at 525 Sullivan
Street to become a women’s residential facility stand, or grant an appeal of that decision and allow the rezoning.

The city’s planning commission denied the request in May by a 3-2 vote.

It will take at least four council votes to grant the appeal.

Should the council grant the variance, Kellye Lewis, owner of Beauty 4 Ashes Christian Counseling, plans to use the home for Christian counseling community resources, therapy groups and a women’s residential facility.

Also on the agenda, the council will:

consider adopting the minutes of the May 1 and May 10 meetings

select the city’s official journal

consider awarding surplus property bids for 9-17 and 14-7

consider re-advertising surplus property bids

consider advertising for bids for influent screw pumps

consider the monthly police report.

The council meets at 7 p.m. Monday at city hall.
