City of Minden announces scheduled power outage on Thursday

by Will Phillips

The City of Minden announced that a scheduled power outage will be taking place later this week on Thursday, October 19 starting at 11 PM. The outage is estimated to last roughly three hours. The city will undergo this power outage as a final step in fully repairing Entergy’s Gilark substation which was damaged after a fire broke out there in late July.

Minden Mayor Nick Cox released a statement on the planned power outage on the city’s facebook page, stating, “The City of Minden is pleased to announce the completion of the repair work at the Gilark substation. We would like to inform residents that to finalize the project and remove the bypass jumpers, it will be necessary to conduct another planned power outage. This outage will impact the City of Minden for an estimated duration of up to 3 hours.”

“The removal of the bypass jumpers is a crucial step in ensuring the long-term stability and reliability of the substation, which directly affects the power supply to our community. This outage is scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 19th, at approximately 11 PM.”

He also urged residents to make preparations for the scheduled outage, such as charging electronic devices beforehand and planning activities that do not rely on electricity.
