College athletics: Louisiana Tech joining Sun Belt Conference, per media reports

Louisiana Tech has accepted an invitation to join the Sun Belt Conference in 2026, according to ESPN and other media reports.

According to ESPN, the timeline on when Tech will join has not been worked out. The earliest it could be is 2026. Other media outlets are reporting that is the date.

Tech will be the conference’s 14th member. It replaces Texas State, which is moving to the PAC-12.

ESPN reports that Tech’s buyout is $5 million.

Tech was a member of the Sun Belt from 1991 to 2001.

Current members of the conference include ULM and Louisiana.
