College baseball: Louisiana knocks Grambling State out of NCAA Tournament

The Grambling State Tigers’ season came to an end Saturday with a 12-5 loss to Louisiana in the NCAA Tournament’s Bryan-College Station Regional in Bryan-College Station, Texas.

SWAC Tournament champion Grambling State, which played in its third NCAA Tournament, finished 26-28.

Louisiana (41-19) broke open the game early, scoring four in the second and third for an 8-2 lead. GSU got within 9-4 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t close the gap further.

The Tigers had eight hits. Trevor Hatton went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. 

Jose Vargas went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Cameron Bufford hit a solo home run.

Starter Miguel Baez took the loss. He allowed four hits and runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Andrew Herrman got the win. He gave up three hits in five innings with three strikeouts and two walks.

Luke Yuhasz went 3-for-5 with a home run. Caleb Stelly went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Kyle DeBarge had two hits and three RBI. John Taylor went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Louisiana will face the loser between Texas and Texas A&M in another elimination game Sunday at 2 p.m.
