Grambling State Athletics
The Grambling State University football team had three student-athletes named to the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) preseason all-conference teams on Wednesday morning.
GSU offensive lineman Alexander Vigil, linebacker Marcellius Johnson and return specialist Jay-Shaun Johnson all earned preseason second team recognition.
Vigil was a major part of Grambling State’s offensive line last season, playing over 600 total snaps and grading out at 72 percent. The offensive line helped the Tigers’ offense rack up 1,712 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, while putting up 2,097 yards and 17 TDs through the air.
Marcellius Johnson garnered second team honors following a season that saw him makes 51 total tackles, the second most on the team, with 21 solo stops. He also registered 4.5 tackles for loss with two sacks. Johnson also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
Jay’Shaun Johnson was among the best in the SWAC in kickoff returns. He returned 10 kicks for 290 yards and one touchdown. Johnson electrified GSU’s homecoming crowd when he returned a kickoff 95 yards, his longest of the year, for a touchdown versus Texas Southern on Oct. 11, 2025. As a defensive back, he registered 11.0 with nine solo tackles. He also recovered a fumble.
