Neighborhood residents turned out Saturday afternoon for Serving the Community, an event hosted by Food 4 the Soul and Project Reclaim at The Farm, where free food and fellowship brought people together from across the area.
From 2 to 5 PM, the atmosphere was upbeat as youth from Project Reclaim flagged down passing cars and welcomed visitors, handing out chili dogs, nachos, chips, cookies, drinks and more. The outreach event drew a steady crowd of neighbors who stopped by to eat, visit and enjoy the warm, welcoming environment.
Barbara Goston, founder of Food 4 the Soul, said the turnout reflected the heart of the mission.
“I would give them food and let them know that I care and that I’m here,” Goston said. “I don’t have much, but God has given me something, and I’m willing to share it.”
Goston began serving food to the homeless in 2020. In 2022, she made her work official by forming the nonprofit organization Food 4 the Soul, which operates under the motto, “Changing lives one meal at a time.”
Saturday’s event appeared to be a success, with many participants expressing appreciation for both the food and the sense of community. Goston said the experience continues to be rewarding.
“I’ve met some amazing people,” she said.
Organizers plan to host another community event in the near future. For more information, visit the Facebook page for Food 4 the Soul.
