BOSSIER CITY — Newly elected 4th District Congressman Mike Johnson is resigning from his statehouse seat.
Media outlets report that State Rep. Johnson, a Republican from Bossier City, sent his letter of resignation Tuesday to Louisiana House Speaker Taylor Barras. Johnson has represented the 8th District of the Louisiana House of Representatives since 2015.
Johnson’s resignation is effective Jan. 2, and sets the stage for a special election March 25.
Johnson was elected to the United States House of Representatives on Saturday after winning a race against Democrat Marshall Jones, a Shreveport attorney.
Qualifying for the election to replace Johnson in the Louisiana House of Representatives will be Jan. 11-13. The runoff election following the March 25 primary is April 29.
Johnson will attend orientation Thursday in Washington.
