June 27, 1959 – October 24, 2025
David Lee Valentine was born on June 27, 1959, in Minden, Louisiana to Merrell Cobb and Isabelle Miller Valentine. He passed from this life on October 24, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri, where he and his beloved wife, Kathie, made their home. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15th, from 10 AM to 12 PM, immediately followed by a service at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road, Kirkwood, MO.
David graduated from Minden High School in 1978. As a young man, he began his career as an electrical lineman with the City of Minden. In 1984 and 1985, he became the proud father of his daughters, Meghan and Tara. In 1991, David moved to St. Louis, joining his mother and stepfather, the late John T. Higgins, and continued his career with the City of Kirkwood Electric from July 8, 1991, through June 5, 2023, when he retired as an Electric Line Superintendent.
David met his wife and love of his life, Kathie, in 1997, and the two were married in 2008. Kathie was a loyal and devoted partner to David, providing unwavering love and friendship throughout their marriage. Together, they cherished life’s moments—watching their children grow (his daughters and her sons, whom he loved as his own), celebrating marriages, welcoming grandchildren, and sharing countless memories. During David’s three-year battle with cancer, Kathie stood faithfully by his side, offering steadfast care, love, and courage through every appointment and treatment.
David was a kind and loving soul with many passions, foremost among them, his family and his love of sports. In his youth, he could always be found playing ball with his best friend, his brother, as well as the neighborhood kids in Minden. He recalledwith a smile in his later years how his mother was so patient as he “tore up the grass” in their yard. Like his father, David was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in a Tuesday evening golf league for many years, forming lifelong friendships along the way. Even during his illness, his love for the game never waned. When he wasn’t on the course, he could be found watching golf—or cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He was known for his remarkable memory of sports and music trivia, a talent that delighted family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his devoted wife, Kathie Valentine; brother, Rob (Debra) Valentine; daughters, Meghan (Reggie) Sharp and Tara (Blake) McMilleon; stepchildren, Adam (Katie) Stephey, Brad Stephey, and Stephanie Walton; eleven cherished grandchildren; many nephews and nieces, as well as several step-siblings.
David will be remembered for his warmth, his loyalty, his dedication to family, and the quiet strength with which he faced life’s challenges. His legacy lives on in the love he gave and the lives he touched.
