Deputies arrest inmate for meth at workplace

A work release inmate at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center was arrested Thursday and booked on charges of drug possession.

Kevin Downs has been accused of leaving a syringe and baggie of methamphetamine at his place of employment, Perryman’s Welding Service, while on work release.

Police were contacted by Perryman’s Welding Thursday when the items were discovered. Officers retrieved the evidence and arrested Downs at the parish jail.

Upon questioning, Downs claimed ownership of the narcotics and told officers that they would not find anything else.

He was then booked back into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
