Donna Gail Cummings Smith

by Minden Press-Herald

Donna Gail Cummings Smith, age 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior on the exact date of her birth. Gail was born in Haynesville, LA on June 4, 1943, and after an 8-month battle with cancer she entered into heaven on June 4, 2023.

Gail lived and attended school in Haynesville and Gibsland, LA. Her first marriage brought her to Minden where she raised her four daughters. In 1993 she married Johnny Smith and moved to Dubberly, LA. She lived her life with a spirit for adventure: from dirt track and drag racing in her 20’s to parasailing in her late 70’s. She loved her family above everything. When asked recently, “Mama if you could get out of that bed and go anywhere you wanted, where would you go?” She answered, “I’d stay right here with the people I love.” She leaned heavily on her favorite scripture: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13.

She is preceded in death by her grandson, Jonathon Moore, her brother, Rusty Cummings, her parents, Buck and Idenna Cummings, her grandparents, John Eddie and Oma Chandler, and Johnny Harmon and Minnie Hennigan Cummings.

Gail is survived by her husband, Johnny Smith; her daughters, Dennie Pat Morgan, Amanda Morgan Gulley and husband Paul, Shelly Morgan Mathews and April Morgan Walker and husband Judd; her stepsons, Johnny Lane Smith and wife Mary, Lonny Smith, Mike Sutter and wife Kelly, Brian Smith and Kristi; her brother, Joe Cummings and wife Peggy; sisters, Ann Thornton and Lisa Stroud and husband Steve; grandchildren, Suzi Prince and husband Dustin, PJ, Peyton, and Mackenzie Gulley, Bridger, Darbi, and Evie Walker, Max Morgan, Rainey Ashcraft and husband Zack, and Landon Morgan; great-grandchildren, Maite Bean and boyfriend Gavin and Mali Bean and boyfriend Andrew, Tanner and Jon -Patrick Gulley, Lane and Jordan Ashcraft; and great great-granddaughter, Aria Weslyn Smith.

Pallbearers are PJ Gulley, Peyton Gulley, Max Morgan, Bridger Walker, Dustin Prince, and Landon Morgan.

Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Moore, Paul Gulley, Judd Walker, Steve Stroud, and Joe Cummings.

Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden, LA on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a graveside service on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the beautiful Mount Mariah Cemetery in Arcadia, Louisiana.
