Doris Helen McIlveene Matthews

by Minden Press-Herald

Doris Helen McIlveene Matthews won her battle with Parkinson’s when she gained her angel wings on Saturday, April 24th, 2021. Born in Shongaloo, February 27, 1936, the only child of Thomas and Ezell McIlveene, who, along with her husband, Henry Matthews, grandson, Jared Spurlock, and her companion, Ronald Tastet, predeceased her.

A 1954 graduate of Shongaloo High School, where she played varsity basketball for 6 years, and a 67-year resident of Minden.

Doris Helen is survived by her children, Diane Spurlock and Tim Matthews, grandchildren, Judd Spurlock and his wife Sarah, Whitney Helen Rodgers, and Aaron Matthews, and great grandchildren, Hugh, Tatum, Henry, Hattie, and Ava.

Doris Helen retired from the Webster Parish Clerks Office in 2004 and was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church for 60 years. Her greatest blessings were her family and dear friends, Gloria, Elsie, Mert, and Alice.  She served the Lord faithfully and cared for her husband, parents, and precious Aunt Doris in their last days.

Heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Savannah Court where Doris Helen made her home the last 2.5 years and to Southern Care Hospice for their love and care this past year.

Donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude’s. Her memorial service will be held at Lakeview this summer.
