A Doyline man is facing charges of aggravated cruelty to animals after allegedly brutally killing a dog left in his care. Jeremy Shane Patterson, 48, was identified by Webster Parish Sheriff Jason Parker as the individual responsible for the heinous act.
Parker stated that Patterson is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on a $50,000 bond. The incident came to light when officers responded to a call from the owner of the residence where Patterson was living. The owner reported finding the dog dead in a bathtub, still covered with water.
According to Parker, Patterson had sent a text message claiming he had drowned the dog. Further investigation revealed that Patterson had allegedly struck the dog ten times with an exercise weight before drowning it in the bathtub.
“The vicious way this poor dog was killed is unimaginable,” Parker stated. “To do something like this to a defenseless animal is cruel beyond belief, and we simply will not tolerate it. We urge the people of our parish to report any crime, and that includes mistreatment of animals.”
Patterson’s case highlights the importance of reporting animal cruelty and the need to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions. The investigation is ongoing, and Patterson is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
