During National Tax Security Awareness Week 2024, from December 2 – 6, the IRS Criminal Investigation, Atlanta Field Office is urging taxpayers to learn how to protect themselves against criminals seeking to make them victims of tax and other scams.
National Tax Security Awareness Week is an annual event created by the Security Summit and consists of IRS, state tax agencies and the tax community, including tax preparation firms, software developers, payroll and tax financial product processors, tax professional organizations and financial institutions.
The event, which is in its ninth year, emphasizes the important of protecting sensitive financial information from identity theft and tax scams.
Taxpayers and businesses can visit the National Tax Security Awareness Week site at https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/national-tax-security-awareness-week-2024 to learn how they protect themselves from several types of scams. The website includes information on online phishing, identity theft, and holiday scams. In addition, there is a link to eighteen YouTube videos covering how individuals, tax professionals and businesses can protect themselves.
“IRS-CI agents are committed to working on behalf of the taxpayer to investigate and help prosecute those who commit financial fraud upon them,” said Atlanta Field Office Special Agent in Charge, Demetrius Hardeman. “This week allows us to highlight financial and identity schemes that taxpayers need to be aware of to deny criminals the opportunity to make them fraud victims.”
