DWI charge sends one to jail

A Minden woman found herself under arrest when she was stopped for a speeding violation.

Theresa Cook, aka “Tank,” 33, of the 100 block of Chandler Street, was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 21, and charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and open container. She was cited for speeding. Bond was set at $1,580.

According to reports, Webster Parish sheriff’s deputy Coby Barton initiated a traffic stop on Highway 371, clocking the driver, identified as Cook, traveling 82 in a 55 mile per hour zone.
Upon contact with Cook, reports indicate her eyes were red and watery and her speech was slurred. Barton reportedly detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person.

Field sobriety tests were conducted to which she performed poorly, according to reports. Inside her vehicle, a cup with an alleged alcoholic beverage was discovered.

Cook was transported to the Minden Police Department where she was given a breathalyzer test, with a blood alcohol content of .195. The legal limit is .08.

She was transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center for booking on the above charges.
