Earth Camp set for June

by Minden Press-Herald

Cultural Crossroads at The Farm will once again offer its summer arts camp, Earth Camp.

Executive Director Chris Broussard says this year, Minden High School Art Teacher Jim Croad will be teaching two camps this year in June for children ages 6 to 16.

“I am thrilled to again get an opportunity to work with kids of all ages this summer and provide an experience that lets kids express themselves creatively and grow in confidence and ability,” Croad said.

The camps are June 20-24, June 27-July 1, and July 18-22, from 1:30 until 4:30 p.m. each week. Croad will instruct the June camps, and Broussard will serve as the instructor for the July camp.

The cost is $125, which includes supplies, a daily snack and an official Earth Camp t-shirt. It will be at Zenobia’s House at The Farm, located on the corner of Talton and East Union in Minden.

Registration is limited to the first 20 students for each session.

The deadline to register is June 15, but discounts are available for families enrolling more than one child. One child is $125, two or more children will be $100 each. If children are registered before May 30, each child will receive a $25 discount.

Broussard started Earth Camp 20 years ago, and it was originally conducted at The Children’s Center. It was moved to The Farm about 15 years ago, with all the proceeds from the art camps going to The Farm.

“Last year, I engaged the talents of area artists and art teachers in an effort to widen the scope of work and provide a wider range of art activities for the children,” Broussard said. “This year, I am excited that Jim Croad will be conducting the first two camps.”

She will conduct the last camp in July, and she says this will be her last camp to teach.

“I will move to a more administrative position, which will open up opportunities for area artists to share their talent and knowledge with our community’s children,” she said.

Make checks payable to Cultural Crossroads and mail to Earth Camp, P.O. Box 1393, Minden, LA 71058. On the registration form, circle which camp the child will attend and their t-shirt size.
