Eighty backpacks given away at Back to School drive

by Amber McDown

The third annual Back to School drive organized by Tamerion Phenix met its goal on Tuesday, July 29, as all 80 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed in just over an hour at Abraham’s Food Mart.

“Well that didn’t take long! I’m excited to share that we successfully gave away 80 backpacks filled with school supplies today,” Phenix said. “We would not have been able to reach our goal without the support from so many of y’all! Thank you, y’all are truly appreciated!”

Phenix concluded his message with a quote from Nelson Mandela: “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference.”

The giveaway was timed to support local students ahead of the new school year, with public school classes in Webster Parish scheduled to begin August 11.
