Shreveport, LA — November 1, 2025 — The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., Beta Alpha Chapter hosted a heartfelt Military Service Program on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Broadmoor Branch Library in Shreveport. Themed “We Are Free Because You Served,” the program honored the bravery, sacrifice, and dedication of local veterans in recognition of Veterans Month.
The event opened with a warm welcome from Erica R. Bryant, Administrator for the Parish of Caddo, and Chief Wayne Smith of the Shreveport Police Department. Attendees also heard inspiring messages from Lt. Colonel and Former Senator Kenny Cox, Staff Sergeant Leon Wheeler, and Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn, each expressing gratitude to the men and women who have proudly served the United States Armed Forces.
Caddo Parish Commissioners Ronald Cothran and Victor Thomas joined in presenting over sixty veterans with certificates, medals, and special gifts in appreciation of their service. The program also included a special salute to the Women Veterans of the Ark-La-Tex, recognizing their courage and contributions to both military service and the community.
A highlight of the ceremony was a touching tribute to Chief Warrant Officer Louis C. Wells, Sr., a 97-year-old World War II veteran, who received a proclamation from the State of Louisiana presented on from Senator Sam Jenkins.
The event concluded with light refreshments and fellowship among honorees, guests, and community supporters.
Janice Horton, President of the Beta Alpha Chapter, expressed her appreciation to all participants and Margaret Thomas, who chaired the event, extended gratitude to volunteers and community partners who helped make the day a memorable celebration of patriotism and pride.
