Extended closures and travel advisory in Webster Parish amidst severe weather conditions

by Amber McDown

While all schools were closed today, January 15, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Webster Parish public schools, Glenbrook School, and Mt. Olive Christian School will also be closed Tuesday and Wednesday (January 16-17) due to the road conditions and extreme cold.

In response to the adverse weather, all parish-based offices, including the courthouse, will remain closed. Residents are advised to exercise caution and confirm the status of destinations before traveling. However, the Minden Police Department urges the public to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Authorities emphasize that excessive traffic can further deteriorate road conditions by promoting melting and refreezing, potentially causing delays for emergency vehicles.

Residents should note that tow or pull-out services will not be available from the City of Minden, and local businesses offering such services may have limited availability based on call volume. Additionally, the utilization of these services during the current weather conditions may result in extra fees.

Stay home and prioritize safety.
