Extreme Cold and Wintry Conditions Grip Northwest Louisiana: Businesses and Residents Urged to Take Precautions

by Minden Press-Herald

As the region braces for a severe winter onslaught, the US National Weather Service in Shreveport issues a series of alerts, including a Hard Freeze Warning, Wind Chill Advisory, Winter Storm Warning, and Winter Weather Advisory.

Hard Freeze Warning is set to take effect from 6 pm CST tonight through noon Tuesday. Overnight temperatures are expected to plummet to the single-digits north of I-30 and the mid-teens south of I-30. Residents are urged to take measures to protect sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing.

Simultaneously, a Wind Chill Advisory will be in effect from 6 pm tonight through noon Tuesday. Bitterly cold wind chills, potentially as low as -9 degrees north of I-30, pose a serious threat. South of I-20, below-zero wind chills are still possible. Authorities emphasize the risk of hypothermia or frostbite with prolonged exposure, urging residents to stay indoors and take necessary precautions.

Furthermore, a Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory will remain in effect until 6 pm CST this afternoon. While a mix of wintry precipitation blankets the area, it is expected to taper off from northwest to southeast by midday, concluding entirely late this afternoon. Travelers are advised to exercise caution on roadways, as icy conditions may persist.

Local businesses are encouraged to prepare for the adverse weather conditions, ensuring the safety of employees and customers. Authorities stress the importance of staying informed through official channels and heeding warnings as the winter weather unfolds.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather developments and adhere to safety guidelines provided by the National Weather Service. It is recommended to limit travel, protect outdoor plumbing, and take measures to stay warm during this challenging weather period.
