Preparations have begun for the 18th Annual Minden Mardi Gras Parade sponsored by Minden Main Street.
The parade is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Jan. 24, 2015, parade chairman, Renae Simmons said.
“This year’s parade will include the Third Annual Battle of the Bands,” Simmons said.
The parade covers a 3.3 mile route which begins at Germantown Road and Elm Street winding through the
Minden Historic District, downtown and back to Germantown Road.
“The Johnson Brother’s carnival will be in town on Friday and Saturday,” said Downtown Development Director Pattie Odom. “Families are encouraged to set up along the route throughout downtown and enjoy picnics and parties prior to the parade.”
Families are invited to participate in the parade by preparing family floats, while organizations and churches are encouraged to do the same.
“Parade entrants are asked to pre-register by Jan. 15, through the Minden Main Street Office,” Simmons said.
Only those entries that register in advance will be permitted in the parade.
Entry forms may be found online at press-herald.com or can picked up at Minden City Hall. The entry forms have times, categories, directions and rules included.
The Fasching Karneval and Parade ends the Fasching Fifth Season with began on November 11.
