FBLA students heading to national competition

by Amber McDown

During the June12 Webster Parish School Board meeting, Kamryn Goodson and Lillian Jolly, students of Lakeside High School, were recognized for qualifying for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) 2023 National Leadership Conference.

“Lakeside was very blessed this year,” said Lesa Ward, business class instructor at Lakeside High. “We had 30 members in our FBLA club. We took all 30 students to the regional competition in February. Out of the 30 that went, we had 25 that either placed in Excellent or Superior rating. We had one young lady that placed 1st in word processing.

“Out of the ones that qualified for state, we took eight. Out of those eight, we had six that scored in the top ten. We had one that was the overall state winner; that’s Miss Lillian Jolly. She won in business calculations. And then we had another one that placed in the top five, and that was Kamryn Goodson. Kamryn qualified in journalism.

“So we will be taking a trip to Atlanta the last week of this month. We appreciate your prayers, and I’m very, very proud of them,” Ward concluded.

The competition will be taking place June 27-30, and will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center and the Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
