FEMA center to close

by Minden Press-Herald

The Federal Emergency Management Agency Disaster Recovery Center in Minden is set to close its doors for good Friday.

Tom Kempton, FEMA spokesman, says the DRC will close at 6 p.m., adding the Shreveport DRC will close Friday as well.

“We’re shuffling around to areas that have more activity,” he said. “We start drawing down at this time in an incident, and the extensions are going on almost 90 days now. There’s just not that many people coming in.”

He says that until June 13, flood victims who have not registered can still do so after the DRC has closed, either by phone or online.

“If they are still in need of assistance, if they have questions, they can still call the 800 number,” he said. “If they are registered by June 13, they will have a registration number that will track their case.”

He says the Small Business Administration may also still be able to offer assistance if needed.

To register by phone, call 1-800-621-3362 or visit their website at www.disasterassistance.gov
