The Lakeside track teams qualified four athletes for the 2A State Meet at LSU. They achieved this by finishing in the top three in their event at the Regional meet at NSU.
Alissa Lander and Kelley Willis won regional titles to lead the Lady Warriors. Lander ran an impressive 11:33 to dominate the 3200. Lander lapped seven of the other eight runners in the race. She goes to state with the top time in the 3200. Willis threw a personal best 105′ 6″ to claim the javelin title. Willis, a ninth grader, takes the sixth best throw in the javelin competition.
Eric Greene and Cody Robinson once again were the class of the field in the 3200. Greene lead the way with a time of 10:20 while Robinson was close behind at 10:23. They were over 200 meters ahead of the next finisher. Greene and Robinson bring the top two times to the state race.
Other scorers at Region were shot putter Jordan Richard and discus thrower Djmon Lard. Richard threw a personal best of 44′ 2″ for fifth. Lard threw 116′ 4″ for sixth.
The State Meet will be held at the Bernie Moore track facility at LSU on Friday, May 6. Running events begin at 5:00 while the field events begin at 1:00. Coaches for the Lakeside teams are John Todd Austin, Dan Grantham, and David Kidd.
