Fred (Freddie) Marshall Morgan Sr., born June 28, 1947 in Springhill, passed away suddenly on Feb. 26, 2016 at his home in Springhill. He was 68 years old. He was the seventh of nine children born to the late Charley and Florence (Basinger) Morgan. He spent most of his young life in the Sarepta/Cotton Valley area.

He is survived by his two children, Melissa (Joey) Mason of Slidell and Marshall Morgan of Wagoner Oklahoma, three sisters, Charlene (Gene) May, Ludy (Larry) Williams and Diane Morgan, brother Frank Morgan and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

His proudest achievement came in the summer of 1991 when he became PaPa Fred. He had a close relationship with Darren and Alyssa Mason, two of his six grandchildren.

Freddie worked for 10 years at Haynes Exxon in Minden before moving to Denton, Texas to be closer to his children. He worked for Kroger Company for 15 years before retiring and moved back to Springhill about four years ago.

An open house/celebration will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 1 until 3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church on Hwy 371, north of Dixie Inn. Please come when you can to enjoy light refreshments and tell stories about Freddie’s adventures. He would want us to laugh and enjoy ourselves while we remember the wonderful person he was.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Freddie’s name.
