Free baseball camp to be held in Ruston July 27

A free baseball camp featuring notable instructors Ralph Garr and Gary Eave is set to take place on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Fraser Field in Ruston. The event, organized by Hall of Famer Wilbert Ellis, will run from 8 AM to 2 PM and is open to boys and girls aged 4 to 15.

The camp schedule includes registration from 8 AM to 9 AM, followed by instruction and teaching sessions from 9 AM to noon. After a lunch break at noon, a closing ceremony will be held from 1 PM to 2 PM. Sessions will cover conditioning tips, connecting and developing relationships, and life skills. A special session titled “Just for Parents” will also be available.

The camp instructors include Wilbert Ellis, Hall of Famer and former Grambling State University (GSU) head baseball coach; Gary Eave, former GSU player and Major League Baseball (MLB) player and Hall of Famer; Ralph Garr, former GSU player, MLB player and Hall of Famer; and Davin Pierre, GSU head baseball coach and 2024 SWAC Champion.

There will also be a number of former GSU players and MLB players such as John Lewis, Ronnie Lewis, Bobby Dupree, and Ira Tuell. In addition, the 2024 GSU baseball champions will be present along with former players such as James Randall, Arthur Herbert, Larry Wayne, and Angelo Eave.

The event is sponsored by Squire Creek, Ruston Housing Authority, Wing Stop-Ruston & Monroe, Origin Bank, Louisiana National Bank, True Care Dental, and JPMS, LLC.
