Glenbrook senior linebacker Rhett Johnson has been named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 1A All-State first team.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Johnson had 75 total tackles and 36 assists, 11 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
He helped the Apaches go 10-0 in the regular season. Glenbrook finished 11-1 after falling to eventual select Division IV state champion Ouachita Christian 28-27 in the quarterfinals.
Glenbrook junior quarterback Ty Feaster and senior defensive back Maddox Mandino were named honorable mention.
Ouachita Christian senior quarterback Landon Graves was named Offensive Player of the Year.
He completed 194-of-302 pass attempts for 2,814 yards and 33 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He also rushed for 518 yards and 10 touchdowns on 89 attempts.
Senior defensive lineman Walteze Champ of non-select Division IV runner-up Homer was named Defensive Player of the Year.
A two-way starter, Champ recorded 101 tackles, 10 sacks and three forced fumbles. He also scored three defensive touchdowns.
Champ and Johnson shared Defensive MVP honors on the All-District 1-1A team,
Frank Gendusa, who coached St. Martin’s to the first semifinal berth in school history, was voted Coach of the Year.
St. Martin’s went from a three-win club in 2021 to an 11-2 record this season. Under Gendusa’s watch, St. Martin’s made its best postseason run in nearly five decades.
