Halloween fun is on the schedule across Minden and Dixie Inn tonight, Saturday, October 31, with several community events offering food, candy, games, and activities for families, rain or shine.
Although rain remains a possibility, the forecast offers some encouragement for those planning to head out in costume. Rain chances, which have hovered around 50% throughout the day, are expected to decrease to approximately 30% by 6 PM and continue dropping as the evening progresses.
Among the festivities planned for tonight are three community celebrations:
- Williams Chapter No. 173 Order of the Eastern Star Fall Festival: Scheduled for 4-7 PM at Victory Park in Minden, the event promises food, treats, and fun for attendees of all ages.
- Boo with the Blue: The Dixie Inn Police Department will host its Halloween celebration from 5-8 PM at McClanahan Park in Dixie Inn. Families are invited to bring their little ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses for an evening of Halloween fun and community fellowship with local law enforcement. Police Chief Jeffrey McNeill said the department’s goal is to bring the community together and provide a safe, enjoyable Halloween experience for children.
- Minden REC Fall Festival: The Minden Recreation Complex will host its celebration from 6-9 PM, featuring bounce houses, trunk-or-treat, free candy, and free hot dogs and drinks for children. Food vendors will also be on-site, and a haunted house will be available for $2 admission. For more information, contact Minden REC at 318-371-4235.
With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, families will also be out trick-or-treating throughout local neighborhoods.
Motorists are reminded to use extra caution while traveling, particularly in residential areas and near community events. Cloud cover, wet pavement, and the early arrival of darkness could make it more difficult to spot pedestrians, especially children wearing dark costumes.
Drivers should slow down, watch carefully for children crossing streets, and avoid distractions behind the wheel. Parents are encouraged to accompany younger children and make sure costumes are visible to approaching vehicles.
Despite the possibility of a few showers, there will be plenty of opportunities for local families to enjoy Halloween festivities throughout the evening.
