High school baseball: Lakeside, North Webster win openers

The Lakeside Warriors and North Webster Knights won season openers Monday night.

In a game featuring two of the area’s best pitchers, Lakeside defeated Doyline 2-0 at Doyline. North Webster downed Plain Dealing 15-0 in four innings in Springhill.

In another opener, Glenbrook fell to Captain Shreve 16-4 in five innings in Shreveport.

Minden opens its season Tuesday against Southwood at home at 6 p.m.

At Doyline, Lakeside’s Jordan Isbell allowed just three hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked two.

Doyline’s Noah Spears went the distance. He gave up just four hits, struck out three and walked none. The two runs against him were unearned.

Lakeside scored a run with two outs in the top of the fourth.

Matthew Aguilera doubled and courtesy runner Eric Jones scored on an error.

Lakeside added another run in the fifth. Eli Santelices singled and advanced to third on an error. He scored on a bunt by Jake Glass.

Lakeside hosts Union Parish Tuesday. Doyline visits Red River Thursday.

At North Webster, the Knights had 13 hits.

Nathan Bernard had a triple, double and three RBI. Sawyer Wages went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Cayden Bernard went 2-for-3 with a double. Tyler Brown and Dajuan Coleman also went 2-for-3.

Wagers went two innings for the win. He allowed one hit, struck out three and walked one.

At Captain Shreve, Glenbrook had just two hits off three Shreve pitchers. The Gators blew the game open with 10 runs in the bottom of the third.

Dawson Day had a double and two RBI.

Glenbrook begins a three-game series with another District 1-5A team, Benton, at Benton Thursday.
