High school baseball: Minden blanks Cedar Creek

The Minden Crimson Tide defeated Cedar Creek 5-0 in Ruston Wednesday.

The Tide avenged a 5-1 loss to the Cougars Saturday at home.

Six Minden players combined for nine hits. Brody Bower went 3-for-4 with a double.

Landon Brewer went 2-for-4. Bower, Jakobe Jackson and Hudson Brown had one RBI apiece.

Jaxon Smith pitched a complete game. He allowed five hits, struck out five and walked two.

Minden (12-6) hosts North Webster at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Elsewhere, Lakeside lost both halves of a District 1-2A doubleheader to Loyola 5-1 and 3-2 at Loyola.

Jordan Isbell gave up just five hits with four walks in the first game. The Warriors had five hits, all singles.

The Flyers’ Reagan Coyle pitched a complete game.

Loyola led 3-1 after five innings in the second game. Lakeside got within one in the top of the sixth on a steal of home by Jon Jon Dick, who led off the inning with a single.

Jake Glass led off the seventh with a walk. With one out, he advanced to second on a groundout. But a lineout ended the game.

The Warriors (9-8, 3-2) and Flyers (7-13, 4-1) are scheduled to complete the series Thursday at 7 at Lakeside.
