High school baseball: Minden blanks Evangel; Lakeside wins

The Minden Crimson Tide handed Evangel Christian its first District 1-4A loss 6-0 Thursday at Griffith Stadium.

In non-district games, Lakeside defeated Grant 4-3 at Grant, and North Webster fell to Zwolle 12-10 in Springhill.

At Minden, Brody Bower pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks.

The Tide broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. They added two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Seven Minden players had one hit apiece. Landyn Huddleston had a two-RBI double with one out in the fourth. Huddleston scored the third run on Jaxon Smith’s sacrifice bunt.

Bryson Ranger’s two-RBI triple with two outs in the fifth gave Minden a 5-0 lead. It followed singles by Landon Brewer and Bower.

Bray Winston scored on a passed ball with two outs in the sixth. Hudson Brown, Smith and Winston had singles in the inning.

Minden (19-7, 4-1) and  Evangel (11-14, 5-1) are tied for second in the district in the loss column. Northwood (20-6, 6-0), which defeated North DeSoto 10-8 Thursday, is the leader. 

There is a district tournament scheduled for April 11-12.

Minden continues district play against Huntington Friday at home at 5.

At Grant, Lakeside scored three runs in the top of the first.

The Cougars answered with two in the bottom of the inning.

Grant tied it with one in the third. Jordan Isbell, who led off with a single, scored on a passed ball in the top of the fifth.

Peyton Gray went 2-for-3. Matthew Aguilera had a double and an RBI.

Isbell got the win in the  five-inning game. He allowed three hits, struck out five and walked three. 

Lakeside (13-11) visits Franklin Parish Friday at 5. 

At North Webster, the Knights led 10-3 after four innings. But Zwolle rallied with two in the top of the fifth, six in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Cayden Bernard went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Preston Ingle had a double.

North Webster (10-13) visits Castor Friday at 5.
