High school basketball: Big fourth-quarter rally lifts Minden boys over Benton; North Webster sweeps Lakeside

The Minden Crimson Tide rallied from a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the Benton Tigers 63-61 Tuesday night at Minden.

Elsewhere, the North Webster Lady Knights extended their winning streak to eight with a 55-15 victory over Lakeside at North Webster.

The North Webster boys picked up their second win of the season, defeating Lakeside 37-20.

At Minden, Jekoye Knowles sank two free throws with 0.1 seconds left to give the Tide the lead. He was fouled trying to make a pass to a teammate outside the arc.

Knowles’ drive to the basket tied the game at 61. The Tide got the chance to break the tie after the Tigers missed a pair of free throws.

Minden trailed 55-42 with just over six minutes left. A 13-1 run got the Tide within one.

Benton went up by three twice and Minden cut it back to one each time. The Tide had three possessions to take the lead but couldn’t do it.

Minden finally tied it after Benton missed one of two free throws in the final minute.

The Tide got off to a slow start but rallied and took the lead in the second quarter. Benton finished the half strong and led 34-27.

The Tigers went on a 6-1 run to start the third quarter and led 40-29.

Minden rallied again and got within three. But Benton answered and led 49-38 at the end of the third.

The Tigers quickly stretched the lead to 13 before the Tide started to rally.

The victory was a true team effort with nine players scoring.

Darnell Morris scored 11 of his game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter., including a big 3-pointer.

Knowles finished with 10 points. Cameron Parker scored all eight of his in the first quarter.

Camelo Smith and Chris Harris scored seven each.

Maurice Rabb had six points in the game. Kameron Harris made four big free throws in the fourth quarter.

Greg Manning and Trey Smith scored 14 points each to lead Benton.

Minden (8-3) faces Haughton on Dec. 28 at 1:30 p.m. at Benton High in the first round of the “Doc” Edwards Invitational.

Benton (8-7) plays Northwood in the tournament on Dec. 28.

At North Webster, Aniyah Davis led the Lady Knights with 28 points.

Amiyah White added eight. Kamya Lawson had seven and Germaya Harris six.

North Webster (8-1) visits Haynesville Wednesday.
