High school basketball: Crimson Tide holds off BTW; Lady Tiders fall; North Webster boys win

The Minden Crimson Tide held off the Booker T. Washington Lions 75-69 in a District 1-4A game Tuesday night at Minden.

Minden improved to 10-7 overall and 1-1 in district. BTW dropped to 6-8 and 0-2.

It was a tough night for the Lady Tiders. Minden kept it close for a half but BTW pulled away in the second for a 52-32 district victory.

Minden dropped to 14-11 overall and 1-2 in district. BTW improved to 13-9 and 2-0.

The Lady Tiders and Lady Lions split the season series. Minden won 38-31 at BTW on Jan. 16 in a non-district game.

Cameron Parker had a big night for the Crimson Tide with 34 points. Harris added 15 and Javen Calloway 11.

Dakeriin Mitchell led BTW with 30 points.

The Crimson Tide got off to a very fast start. Minden closed the first quarter with a 12-4 run and led 25-13.

The Tide remained hot early in the second. After the Lions cut the lead to 25-15, Minden went on a 13-2 run for a 38-17 lead. 

The fast start was propelled by strong defense which gave the Tide some opportunities to score in transition.

But Minden started missing 3-pointers and BTW rallied. The Lions closed the half with a 12-1 run, cutting the lead to 39-29.

BTW continued the comeback early in the third quarter, scoring the first nine points to get within one.

Kameron Harris finally ended the Tide’s scoring drought with two free throws. The game remained close after that.

Minden led 57-54 after BTW made a layup at the end of the third quarter.

The Lions took a 58-57 lead early in the fourth. But the Tide quickly regained the lead and didn’t trail again.

Minden extended the lead to 65-59 with a 6-1 run. That was followed by a 7-3 run that put the Tide on top 72-62 with 1:30 left. The Lions got within five with 40.6 seconds left but could get no closer.

Minden hosts defending district champion Bossier Friday. The Bearkats (15-6, 2-0) defeated Northwood 59-53 Tuesday night.

North Webster was the only other parish boys team to pick up a victory. The Knights improved to 11-8 with a 56-51 non-district victory over Grant.

Doyline fell to Castor 61-56 in a District 1-B game at Doyline. The Panthers fell to 15-11 overall and 0-2 in district. The Tigers improved to 18-7 and 1-0.

Castor also won the girls game 45-18.

Glenbrook fell to Lincoln Prep in boys and girls games at Glenbrook.
